that’s the kalalau trail on the left hugging the cliffsides. one of the most terrifying, humbling, and yet empowering hikes I’ve ever done, to fit it all in less than 24 hrs, hiking in under the most ridiculous amount of stars I’ve ever seen and hiking back out during sunset. I highly recommend this trail, unless you’re terrified of heights like me, or have bad balance, because you can easily die on this trail, sometimes less than a foot wide on a steep decline with huge drop offs to the ocean right next to you, and the ground being the most unsturdy tiny pebbles and nothing to catch you if you fall. I learned after I got back that many people die or disappear on this trail every year. so many moments where I had to slam myself into the most immediate sense of presence, and surrender to the island. I swear I almost died like four times. however I had tears from the immense beauty many more times than that. would it have been as beautiful without the moments of impending death?
