Musicians are praised for their virtuosity, dancers, athletes, painters, these people are appreciated for skills that are usually honed with countless hours of practice and dedication. But what about the dishwasher who, through countless hours of practice, is able to bust through a giant load of dishes in record time, who uses such elegant and precise movements, or the chef who effortlessly creates such tasty and visually appealing meals by the hundreds in a span of a few hours, or the guy mowing lawns and trimming trees, or the bus driver elegantly weaving in and out of traffic in such a giant whale of vehicle. One thing I love about Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli films is that they have a way of making the normal everyday routine life seem so beautiful. Whatever you do, whatever your craft, your repeated action, do it artistically, elegantly, find the beauty in what you are doing, appreciate your skill earned through many hours of practice. You are just as good as that athlete you idolize, or the painters whose pictures you hang on your walls, or the musicians you pay endless money to go dancing to their music and be in their presence. You are the ballet dancer, you are the artist, you are the world class athlete. If you enjoy my photos, just know that I spent hours every single day for so many years working on my photography. Anything with that much practice gets better after time. Trust the process. And this is true for healing too. Time heals everything, but really it’s just practicing at your healing for so many hours. All these things are just rewiring the neural pathways in your brain to create solidified habits, and building upon those habits creatively.
