Diamonds in the Cliff

Trying to be artistic and not let this be just another basic long exposure waterfall photo that you’ve already seen a hundred times. Spending time with the waterfall, immersing my spirit in its energy, integrating that energy into my camera by noticing what pulls my heart and fills it with warmth, and focusing my composition on that. I always hope my work makes you feel something, not just copies other people’s photos and just shows that I have the equipment and skills to do that photo too. I hope to create art, I hope to be original, I hope to leave you moved the way this earth moves me, and I hope to instill in you a sense of urgent protectiveness for our mother. We are so blessed to call this place our home. The white dots you see on the cliffs are not diamonds, but birds, northern fulmars nesting. What a beautiful place to nest surrounded by your community. All day they just flew around in circles in this canyon, as if they were just so stoked on life and happy to feel the warm air mixed with the cool mist of the tallest waterfall in Iceland(shown in the background of this photo); and they would land peacefully next to their mate in the soft green moss and make silly noises, probably expressions of joy and contentment. What a life.

I believe as artists we need to not copy each other, but push the creative envelope, which I truly believe pushes humanity’s collective understanding of the universe, by firing up new unused neural pathways, using more of our brain power than ever before. Take time, dig deep, be still, feel, listen, take us forward.
