I love my new home! Last night I was on a mountain on the edge of a zero light pollution zone, hoping to shoot the stars because the aurora prediction was low. As I was reading my book, I looked up and saw a long line stretching across the sky, like a glowing green cloud. Then all of a sudden the sky seemed to catch fire with yellow, green, and purple, and just like the movement of a wild flame, it danced so violently across the whole sky, so vivid and beautiful, like it was being painted with brush strokes. I’ve seen the aurora a few times before, but it has only been faint glowing skies. This was ridiculous! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I didn’t know it was possible to see them this defined and vibrant with the naked eye, or that they moved with such rapid motion. Almost too distracted to take photos, I imagined what the Sami, the indigenous peoples of northern Scandinavia, must have thought seeing such wild displays, like the heavens were falling down on earth. I’ve seen a lot of crazy things in my short life, but this was on a completely different level. Such a profound experience, I feel changed. It sounds weird but I truly feel like a different person. The wild land of Norway seems to make so much more sense with the northern lights blazing above it. Please come visit you have to see this!
